Night In The Woods

One of the most important and impactful games in the Kitty & Martin Gaming Shelf. It sits at the very core of our relationship, and it is through it that we had, perhaps, our first true connection.

A long time ago, when the world seemed very different from today, I suggested this game to Kitty, because I wanted to show her something, anything. I hoped it would make an impression on her and reveal something about myself. But it's a long game which could take up to a week to complete from start to finish, so I didn't really think she would finish it. But then, perhaps with the intention of marking an impression on me, to my surprise, she did.

Since then, we've restarted the game together. Kitty got a Night In The Woods t-shirt for Christmas. We considered calling one of our cats Mae. And sometimes, when we are lying in bed talking side-by-side, I will direct my stare sideways towards Kitty while still facing ahead, and she tells me how much I look like Gregg.

We have yet to finish the game, but my favourite scene is when Mae and Bea go to the shopping mall in Possum Springs, and Mae figures out how to work the magic fountain, and suddenly her mischievous character which, up until that point, Bea finds irritating, emerges differently, and makes Bea laugh. And I think of how much I love making Kitty laugh, and if all I ever did was make her laugh and be happy, then I'd laugh and be happy myself.
